Reframing: Attack Attack Attack

This will particularly interest those who heard George Lakoff the other night at the Cruising Club. Among other things he talked about in his extended presentation was the “cut and run” frame the Republicans had set up and which the Democrats seem incapable of recognizing, much less extricating themselves from.

Lakoff’s solution was to change the frame from “fighting a war” to “occupation.” We won the war, he says. The army confronted an army and took territory. End of war. Since then it’s been an occupation — and it needs to be ended. Keep hammering the Republicans about forcing our fine armed forces into being an army of occupation.

TRex, a well known blogger, contributes to the FireDogLake site with his own answer to the the cut and run frame. Never answer! Attack, attack attack!

Words for Acts

Of all the enemies of public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies. From these proceed debt and taxes. And armies, debts and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few...No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

James Madison, 1795
