Russian Thermobar(bar)ic Bomb

Filed under: FrontPage | Russia | Weapons — by Will Kirkland @ 3:02 pm

We posted two weeks ago a couple of articles about the UK and the covert pride of the military in a new generation of thermobar(bar)ic bombs.

“The thermobaric bomb is just about the most vicious weapon you can imagine — igniting the air, sucking the oxygen out of an enclosed area, and creating a massive pressure wave crushing anything unfortunate enough to have lived through the conflagration.”

So aren’t we just super happy to hear of the great Russian pride announced on TV today?

The [Russian] military has successfully tested what it described as the world’s most powerful non-nuclear air-delivered bomb, state television reported, the latest show of the nation’s military muscle.

Channel One television said the new ordnance, nicknamed the “Father of All Bombs” is four times more powerful than the U.S. “Mother of All Bombs.”

“The tests have shown that the new air-delivered ordnance is comparable to a nuclear weapon in its efficiency and capability,” Colonel-General Alexander Rukshin, deputy chief of the military’s General Staff, said in televised remarks late Tuesday.
