Two of Seven Soldiers Who Wrote NYT Op-Ed Die in Iraq
I’m sure many of you read the moving–and absolutely frank–NYT op-ed written by seven soldiers on active duty in Iraq (Aug. 19). One was shot in the head while the piece was being published. He’ll survive, but god knows how. But two more of those brave ones are gone for good.
They were at the tale-end of their deployments.
The Op-Ed by seven active duty U.S. soldiers in Iraq questioning the war drew international attention just three weeks ago. Now two of the seven are dead.
Sgt. Omar Mora and Sgt. Yance Gray died Monday in a vehicle accident in western Baghdad, two of seven U.S. troops killed in the incident which was reported just as Gen. David Petraeus was about to report to Congress on progress in the “surge.” The names have just been released.
Meanwhile, in Congress, some of the Dems appear to be blinded by the glint coming off Petraeus’s medals, like deer caught in the headlights (see yesterday’s NYT story on his Senate testimony). Message to the Democrats, indeed to all members of Congress: Dithering costs lives. American lives, Iraqi lives. Every day of the week, without fail.
