State of the Nation: Ending State Executions
The Des Moines Register urges the nation to follow New Jersey’s example: “Change is in the air. Perhaps Americans have been paying attention when inmates who were wrongly convicted have been released from death row. Perhaps they understand there is something cruel and unusual about a public employee strapping criminals to tables for a lethal injection or shaving their heads to prep them for the electric chair or placing them in gas chambers while audiences watch them die.”
