Preacher Exhaustion

Filed under: Politics | Religion — by Will Kirkland @ 9:13 pm

This is what you get when you blow up the wall of separation between church and state and require every one who runs for political office to show the tongue that has licked the preacher’s boot. The boot will stomp for more.

Billy Graham:
[Richard Nixon]“A lot of the Jews are great friends of mine. They swarm around me and are friendly to me… But they don’t really know how I really feel about what they’re doing to this country.

John Hagee: [John McCain] “How is Jesus going to crush secular humanism and liberalism and anti-Semitism and atheism?” Hagee asked. ” He is not going to ask the Supreme Court to put the Ten Commandments up in our courthouses. He is going to tell them, and they will bow down to him like children.”

The crowd roared.

“And those judges who let men get married – he is going to cast them into the pit of Hell to be roasted for all of eternity like they deserve!”

Pat Robertson: [Rudy Giuliani] “Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians.”

Jerry Falwell: [Mike Huckabee] “God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve,” [referring to 9/11] and that “the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way — all of them who have tried to secularize America — I point the finger in their face and say, ‘You helped this happen.’”

Jeremiah Wright: [Barack Obama] “God Damn America!”

Doug Coe: [Hillary Clinton] “Jesus says, ‘You have to put me before other people, and you have to put me before yourself.’ Hitler, that was the demand of the Nazi Party. You have to put the Nazi Party and its objectives in front of your own life and ahead of other people!”

No agnostic has ever done me this way. So, how do you want your Theocracy? Jane Smiley

Words for Acts

Of all the enemies of public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies. From these proceed debt and taxes. And armies, debts and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few...No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

James Madison, 1795
