Marin County Landfill Issue: Action

Filed under: Action! | Marin County — by Guest @ 8:46 am

Friends,

I’m writing to ask a personal favor.

While I know we are all busy fighting our many good causes, family needs, and now the holidays, I need 5 minutes of your valuable time.

Bottom line is I need you to send an emergency e-mail to Board Members of the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB), aka State Waste Board, to ask for a one month delay on hearing Redwood Landfill’s expansion scheduled for December 16th.

Marin must first conduct it’s Board of Supervisor’s 44307 appeal hearing scheduled for Dec. 19th. We are concerned that a ruling by CIWMB may have a significant impact on our hearing. Also, the full Board, with three new members, needs to be seated to hear this very important issue.

Just copy and paste the message and email addresses provided below by Monday, Dec. 15 to get to Board packets for meeting on Tues. Dec. 16. (blind copy me, if you will)

Dear Chair Brown & Board Members,

We urge your Board to delay for 30 days the “Consideration of A Revised Full Solid Waste Facilities Permit for The Redwood Landfill in Marin County” scheduled for December 16th until January for the following reasons:

* Marin must first conduct it’s Board of Supervisor’s 44307 appeal hearing scheduled for Dec. 19th. We are concerned that a ruling by CIWMB may have a significant impact on our hearing.

* The full Board needs to be seated to hear this very important issue.

Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully,

Your name
Address

Please pass this on to your friends & lists of people that care about the health & welfare of our citizens and the environment. Independent expert testimony estimated potentially $1 Billion cleanup after an earthquake, levee failure, or flood. Not to mention rising sea level issues!

E-mail objective: To get a 30 day delay on hearing the expansion for 2 reasons:
1) Allows Marin County to conduct our Board of Supervisors Redwood Landfill appeal hearing scheduled for Dec. 19th. To insure that this will not be a moot exercise after the state has already made their decision on expansion on December 16th.
2) Three new members will be seated to hear our testimony including our former Assembly/Senator Carole Migden.

Hearing (if not postponed) is at 9:30 on Dec. 16 in Sacramento. Feel free to join us. Call us @ 459-5859

Words for Acts

An avidity to punish is always dangerous to liberty. It leads men to stretch, to misinterpret, and to misapply even the best of laws. He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.
