Tent City in Sacramento
[Bumped. TV news is picking up on this, Tuesday March 10.]
We got news of this from friends in the U.K. Maybe I was asleep the day it hit the air waves here, but I think not.
More photos of the tent city growing near Sacramento.
“Sacramento’s homeless rate is rising fast. With more foreclosures, jobs lost and full shelters, all you have to do is walk downtown or cruise the American River and you’ll meet people who are homeless for the first time.
“The sea of tents along the American River is hard to miss, and their number is growing.
“Anywhere from 20 to 50 people a week is showing up out here that just became homeless,” said Steve Kruse, a homeless man. “There are shelters, but they’re filling up so fast.”
Many of the men and women in the tents lost their jobs and then their home. ”

Hard to believe that is is happening in California. But unemployment in California is apparently significantly above the rest of the country –

Tent city is NOT growing by 50 people per day. I own a business right next to the area the homeless is squatting on. They have been living on and off there for years. There are about 30 people in total in the most populated part. The city comes in and displaces them every once in a while. Mainly when it becomes a large trash dump. That point is approaching quickly. Last year 2008 it burned down 3 times and cleaned itself up. This year Kevin Johnson has been talking about building a “Tent City” so they are coming from all over the county to the area along the river. Take a drive through the area. It is a real big mess this time. I hope for a big fire this year.

Call this Wall Street offspring, sired by trickle down economics, and all of the same progeny, springing up across the country, the only name that they deserve- “BUSHVILLES.” History can already declare that the greatest threat to America’s well being and national security has been, the ideologically driven Wall Street- Bush axis of thieves.
The story started appearing on local news a couple of days ago.
