Dear Friends of Mustafa and Ghazwan,

As you know by now, the SF Unified Schools agreed to fund Mustafa’s next year of school at the Hearing and Speech Center in San Francisco. Mustafa loves school, and has been excelling with his cochlear implant. He now has a vocabulary of 20 words, and can use language to communicate. It is very exciting. He is now attending summer school.

On June 30 we began a fund drive for an apartment for this family. We have been asking friends to donate for a period of 6 months to insure their rent. The great news is we have found an apartment on Sacramento Street in Laurel Village. A very generous landlord saw CW Nevius’s article in the SF Chronicle on June 13th which talked about Mustafa, and the search for a place to live. The landlord called and offered his rental for half rent, or $1200. per month for a 2 bedroom, beautiful, sunny spot, 3 floors up and walking distance to everything. And, although the offer is for 6 months, we are now hoping they may be able to stay for a year. Many of you have already donated generously and we have brought in $4555. to date. This puts us on our way to making our initial goal of $8000. We are now hoping to double this goal.

If you have pledged, and have not sent in your donation please do so now as Ghazwan’s rent begins July 15. If any of you who have donated, or pledged can give more toward a full year in this perfect apartment it would be welcomed. Ghazwan can concentrate on getting a job and learning English, and his wife who is due within the next 6-8 weeks can reunite with her family.

Please join those who have taken the lead on this leg of Mustafa’s journey and help them over the next year. No pledge is too small. All donations are tax deductible.

Pledges and donations to date from friends of Mustafa are:

Words for Acts

Of all the enemies of public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies. From these proceed debt and taxes. And armies, debts and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few...No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

James Madison, 1795
