Upstate NY Puts Dem in House After 100 Years
The nasty little fratricide among conservatives resulted in their losing a Congressional seat they had held for over 100 years.
Democrat Bill Owens wins hard-fought race for 23rd congressional seat
The outcome made history in the rural House district covering Northern and Central New York, one of the geographically largest east of the Mississippi. It is the first time someone other than a Republican has represented the heart of the region – Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Franklin counties – since the GOP was established in 1856 and the first Republicans were seated in the House in 1857.
The last Democrat elected to a House seat from the region was Frances E. Spinner, who represented St. Lawrence County in Congress from 1855 to 1857.
After Palin, Limbaugh, Beck and others spent weeks smearing the GOP nominee, Dede Scozzafava, she pulled out at the 11th hour, and subsequently endorsed her Democratic opponent, Bill Owens. Though losing, their is rejoicing in the conservative camp as having proved their case that wingnutism has its adherents.
