Ruth Group Speakers Series

For about 4 years the Ruth Group brought speakers to small, local venues where ordinary folks could participate with authors, educators, activists in the idea and action formation so necessary to a vibrant democracy. After a tapering down of these meetings, we reconvened in November 2008 with a very good fund raising and viewing of Soldiers of Conscience, a documentary about active duty military deciding to be conscientious objectors. Watch the blog for more events to come. One of our group spun off his own Progressive Perspectives, a speakers series you will see mentioned on this blog often.

Words for Acts

Of all the enemies of public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies. From these proceed debt and taxes. And armies, debts and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few...No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

James Madison, 1795
