Remembering Molly Ivins

Filed under: Critical Voices | FrontPage | Humor | Heroes — by Bob Zuber @ 4:25 pm

This from the San Antonio Express-News is the first of much commentary in Texas sure to follow on the death of this much beloved, much loathed native daughter: “Ivins sided with underdogs. In an interview last year with the Houston Chronicle, Ivins said she made a career writing about “who was getting screwed and who was doing the screwing.”

In Dante’s Hell those guilty of the sin of cupidity are in the ninth circle, frozen in the Lake of Ice. Having cared for nothing but self in life, they are encased in icy Self for eternity. By making people focus only on oneself in this way, Satan and his followers turn their eyes away from the harmony of love that unites all creatures.
